I think it had big bird on it...lol.
anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane there lol.
and you're right, we are saving up a bunch of change for him now, he has an AWESOME stegosaurus piggy bank. that i am working on filling. As well as a savings account i put $5 a week in for his first car or whatever he decides at that time. if i keep it up it will be about $5000 by then, plenty for a first car!
The bank that I had was a brass one that had room for nickels, dimes, and quarters. Don't know why it didn't have pennies in it. That was about 20 years ago when Canada didn't even think of getting rid of the penny. Now they're talking about it, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon.
Now with Loonies and Toonies up here, the banks need to get a bit bigger. Glad I could take you on a little stroll down memory lane. :) I'm sitting here listening to an oldies station, and it reminds me of my teenaged years, spending hours listening to my radio. LOL I'm too friggen OLD to be 30 (almost 31). haha
How big's the stegosaurus? That sounds so cool. I'd love to see a video! :)
I have a few loonies myself, i even have a couple paper dollars from Canada. Which for an american who has never been there is odd. It's amazing how much Canadian money makes it into circulation down here in Michigan. Just today i found 4 pennies and one quarter laying around my house from Canada. I will make my first trip to Canada this year in the middle of my first marathon, I will cross the ambassador bridge and go back through the tunnel. speaking of which...i have to go get my enhanced drivers license! lol.
As for the money exchange, I'm sitting here laughing my head off right now. A lot of American money makes it up here too, mostly as change, but the odd single makes it into the tip jars around here. When I see one, I replace it with a Loonie, and put it in my "American wallet." Since I'm going to NYC next month, I'm collecting American money where I can find it, and that includes change. I've got about $11. haha I wonder what $11 will get me in NYC. haha Fear not, I have about $1,200 in the account I opened in AZ, and will add another $500 next month. If I can't live on $1,700 in NYC for three days, something is VERY WRONG WITH ME!!!!
I remember showing my Canadian paper money to my 5th grade teacher (grade 5 in canadian lingo ;-P) who had just moved from canada and he said "hold onto that, not many canadians have those anymore) he was the coolest teacher i ever had...i have to look him up...
You should be fine with that much money though! but in vacation mode we all tend to spend more than we normally would. and like i said, i hear NYC can be expensive.
I think I know aproximately where you were. Last time I was in Deteroit was 2009 when I took a bus down there for a birthday party in Ohio. I met a friend of mine there, and she drove me the rest of the way. I've also been through Detroit in 99 on the way to Branson MO, and 96 on the wash to Nashville. My friend that met me at the terminal is in Flint.
As for me being waaaaay out West somewhere, keep in mind that when I first joined Gather, I lived in AZ....well sort of. haha Technically I've maintained this apartment for almost 11 years. However, when Walker and I met, we both started moving between here and AZ, depending on what the circumstances were.
I know what you mean about making a device pay for itself lol. that is half the reason i am justifying a tablet. So i can do SBTV while i run on the treadmill lol.
I made a hysterically funny discovery last week. I love oldies, and found a really neat stream called fun45s.com You probably know a 45 RPM is a tiny little record common in most jukeboxes of the rock and roll era. LOL Anyway, I absolutely LOVE all of the music on this stream. However, they have about 8 hours of playlists, and then they repeat. I have an annoyingly good memory, and the "random" button is the best feature in the world. Needless to say, I now have the order of the songs on fun45s committed to memory!!! I'm thinking of opening a little booth at the mall, and taking bets on what the next song's going to be. I bet you $20 the next song up will be "my Girl" by The Temptations. Oh listen!! That's exactly what they're playing. PAY UP!!! :) My cousin's 4 year old is going to be impressed when I show her my new trick.
or give you the cheat codes to Doom II ( a game i havent played in over 15 years)
god mode : I-D-D-Q-D
all guns and full ammo - I-D-K-F-A
Walk through walls I-D-S-P-O-S-P-O-P-D
If only i could remember useful things rather than cheat codes to 15 year old video games....
As for the video game cheat codes, I know Walker will be able to relate to those. LOL We'll be sitting here watching The Big Bang Theory or something, and Sheldon and the guys will reference an ancient video game, and he'll tell me where he was and what he was drinking, the last time he played it. :)
In all honesty, having all that music in my brain is what has kept me SANE all these years!! When I was a teenager all I wanted to do was listen to the radio. I made a lot of friends that way, and believe it or not, those old radio guys taught me a thing or two about high standards. Walker is a lot like my favourite one, who passed away 15 years ago. There's just something about those radio guys that I really liked.
Earlier this afternoon over a cup of coffee, listening to another radio show, I was thinking about the "useful things." Mom used to bug me about how far I'd go if I paid attention in school the way I did to my music, and other things that interested me. Hey, I may not be "normal" in the eyes of the rest of the world, but I do pretty damn well. There are a lot of people in the world who have a pretty big education, but who react irrationally to the world around them, and can't or won't accept challenges. It can be the worst day on Earth, and all I need to do is pull out my phone, tune into whatever music I feel like listening to at the time, and the rest of the world can go to Hell!!! :)
As for the music, i am only capable of speaking one language (so far) but a couple of the songs in my head are in Japanese...even if dont know what the hell they are saying...
I wated so long in showing the world that I actually noticed guys, that my Dad thought there was something wrong with me. haha Now he gets on my case, and Walker tells him to respect his elders, while I present him with a list of platonic male references he can call. ROFLMAO I remember thinking "after my sister's boyfriend-de-jour act, he should be kissing the ground I walk on!!" HAHA The fact that I met Walker in Dad's basement was quite fitting.
I have learned more on the internet than I ever learned sitting in a class room. Anything I want to know, I ask my computer, or I ask my phone, and voila. FACTS! No teachers, no homework, no authority....
Whew! Almost 4 AM. These computers sure can make us lose track of the time. Looking forward to your next series of posts.
Goodnight.
