Some things seem to become extinct over time. Dinosaurs the most obvious and well known. Then we have tokens and turn styles in subways replaced by swiping cards. Pay phones sitting in a booth with nickel, dime, and quarter slots. No need for that anymore as cell phones wiped them out. My particular old favorite was the drive in movie which I can't find anywhere anymore. It brought back fond memories of good old movies and having a cheeseburger with fries and a coke. One arm around your girlfriend who sat next to you with a ponytail that seemed to go extinct also. Fashion and hair styles, not what I remember it used to be during those simpler times. I miss my old 1958 Chevy convertible. Music which once meant something special with lyrics and a melody now seems to be extinct. Hard rock, punk rock, rap, and hip hop seemed to have destroyed that. I drove to an old neighborhood where I grew up in. My 2,010 Honda took me there. An old favorite place was now a huge shopping mall where the drive in movie used to be. The parking lot was expanded and I pulled into a spot where I used to sit with an old girlfriend. My eyes stared at the front of the mall where the big screen used to be. The daydreaming began of simpler times as a few tears fell from my eyes. Eventually I fell asleep while wishing and hoping and dreaming. The smell of cheeseburgers and fries woke me up. My girlfriend told me that I dozed off just before the movie started. My arm was put around her once again as we kissed between the bites of our meal. I was happy to be back in simpler times...Maybe some things don't really become extinct. Love being one of them. I went to the corner phone booth and dropped a dime in the slot. I told my wife that I would be a little late coming home....Case in point in a short love story of first loves and favorite places.
